Sex Offender Arrested For Not Registering
Convicted sex offender Donald Torkelson was arrested by Spokane police last week, authorities said Tuesday.
Officers caught up with Torkelson at his mother’s house in the 2300 block of West Sharp on Thursday.
He was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of failing to maintain a registered address, a felony.
Sheriff’s detectives got a warrant for Torkelson’s arrest July 1 after he moved from an address near Eloika Lake without telling them.
As a Level III sex offender, considered the most likely to commit more sex crimes, the 37-year-old man is required to tell authorities where he’s living.
In 1987, he was convicted of five counts of first-degree statutory rape for attacking five Spangle children. He served six years of a 10-year sentence before being released in Spokane. He was acquitted of another rape charge just last month.
