Youth Safety Summit Set In Pullman

From Staff Reports

One of two Whitman County forums focusing on youth safety and violence will be held today at Pullman’s Simpson United Methodist Church.

The 6-9 p.m. forum is one of 40 Youth Safety Summits statewide organized by Gov. Gary Locke and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson.

Educational Service District 101, Whitman County Community Mobilization, Whitman County Community Health and Safety Network, local law enforcement officials and other community groups are sponsoring the event.

Participants will be asked to help shape state policies in the following areas: youth involvement; parents and families; school safety; and media roles and responsibilities.

The community impact of the May riot at Washington State University will also be addressed.

A second forum is scheduled Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Steptoe Grange Hall on Highway 195.
