Congressional Run Expected By John Beal

Eastern Washington’s congressional race is expected to get more crowded today with the entrance of a candidate from the U.S. Taxpayers Party.

John Beal, an independent contractor from Spokane, is expected to announce his campaign at a scheduled 2 p.m. news conference at the Ridpath Hotel. Beal was drafted by delegates to the party’s state convention last month, but said he needed time to think and pray about the race.

His opponents would be Republican incumbent George Nethercutt and Democrat Brad Lyons, an Odessa farmer and businessman.

He would be the second candidate from the conservative, anti-abortion party to enter a congressional race this week. Bruce Craswell of Silverdale announced Wednesday he was running for the northwest Washington seat held by Republican Rep. Rick White.
