United Way Distributing $432,498

United Way of Kootenai County is doling out $432,498 for local programs for 1999.

That’s 16 percent more than was given for 1998.

The money will go to 24 agencies providing health and human services. Three new agencies received funds this year - Children’s Village, St. Vincent de Paul men’s shelter and Kootenai County’s Juvenile Impact Program.

United Way hopes to raise $550,000 this year and have 120 local companies hold employee campaigns in the September and October fund-raising drive.

The distribution of the money for 1999 is: $29,000 for programs to aid in access to health care, $123,075 for crisis intervention and counseling programs, $107,195 for hunger and shelter services, $46,378 for services for people with special needs, $21,350 for support services for senior citizens, $83,500 for youth services and $22,000 for community services.
