Bleeding Suspect Arrested At Scene

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home burglary call Sunday and found the suspect lying in the driveway, his hands and legs cut and bleeding.

The man apparently was injured while entering the home through a sliding glass door he had smashed with his fists, deputies said. He left the home without any loot and stretched out in the driveway.

Deputies arrested Bruce A. Schafer, 31, of 5415 N. Stevens St. for residential burglary just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

They responded to a call from a man and woman who were hiding in the house. They locked themselves in a bedroom and listened while the suspect yelled and broke things inside their home.

A neighbor, who saw the man pounding on the glass door, also called 911, according to police reports. When he left the home, the neighbor came over to try to calm him down and keep him from leaving.

Deputies arrested the man just after 2 a.m.
