Dot Crews Continue Road Improvements Mount Spokane Park Drive Will Be Closed July 27

Mount Spokane Park Drive is getting another facelift.

State Department of Transportation crews started working last month on improvements to the road not far from where it meets Highway 2.

The DOT will close Mount Spokane Park Drive from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 27. The department will realign train tracks which service the Burlington Norther-Santa Fe Railroad, according to project engineer Harold White.

The train tracks run across the road. Road crews plan to take the train tracks under the highway so motorists won’t have to contend with train traffic anymore. That project won’t be completed until the spring, White said.

In the end, motorists will have a safer and straighter road to drive on.

A right-turn lane will be added to Highway 2 for motorists as they approach Mount Spokane Park Drive.

In addition, about the first half-mile of Mount Spokane Park Drive will be widened and straightened for motorists. A sharp turn just off Lowe Road will be removed, White said.

This is the second phase of the state’s improvement project to Mount Spokane Park Drive.

The first phase of the road project was completed last year with improvements made to the intersection of Bruce Road and the highway just east of Mt. Spokane High School.
