Suspect Awakened At Scene
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a tuckered burglary suspect Thursday after he fell asleep on a stranger’s sofa.
Truk V. Carey, 25, of 5410 N. Lynden Rd. in Otis Orchards, was arrested for first-degree possession of stolen property just before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies responded to a home in the 19200 block of East Eighth Avenue after a resident came home and noticed the back door had been pried open.
When police went inside, they found a man wearing gloves snoozing on the sofa. Nearby on the floor, eight rifles and shotguns, worth over $6,000, were wrapped in a blanket. Four dolls, worth $600, were placed by a door, along with two boxes of checks.
Deputies found a large unopened safe lying on its back in the basement. It was surrounded by pry bars, chisels, saws and other tools taken from the owner’s workshop.
The suspect apparently had tried to open it, and tired himself out in the process, deputies said.
Police also found several empty pop cans scattered throughout the house. The owner of the home had not drunk them.
Deputies arrested the groggy man and ran a check on the 1985 Honda Civic he had parked outside. Both the car and license plates were stolen, according to police reports.
Store robbed
Deputies arrested a 43-year-old Medical Lake man on Friday for second-degree robbery of a Valley Albertson’s store.
Jimmy L. Hager was arrested at the store, located at 10 N. Pines Road, after an employee called police to report a fighting shoplifter.
A female employee told police she saw a man leave the store with stolen items under his coat. A male employee then went after him. The suspect, according to police reports, had a carton of Camel cigarettes in each hand.
The male employee caught the suspect, swung him around and forced him to the ground. The employee let the man get up twice, but both times he tried to flee, deputies said. After that, the employee held him on the ground until deputies arrived.
The man had a misdemeanor warrant and a fugitive warrant out of Newport, Oregon, deputies said.
