Cda Book Retailer Made Protest By Staying Open

D.F. Oliveria For The Editorial

The downtown Coeur d’Alene businesses that closed during the Aryan Nations hate parade Saturday deserve to be applauded as does one of the few shops that stayed open, The Bookseller.

Bookseller owner Steve Meyer had a great reason for deciding not to close.

“The image of Nazis closing a book store is too hard to contemplate,” he said.

Meyer gave permission to the Bonner Coalition Against Malicious Harassment to gather outside the book store. And he put placards in the Bookseller’s window that proclaimed, “Coeur d’Alene is too great to hate.”

In making his stand, Meyer showed there’s more than one way to protest the obnoxious presence of the Aryan Nations in North Idaho.
