Medical Lake Fire Started By Arsonist

A fire that burned five acres of grass and timber Sunday near Medical Lake was arson, Medical Lake fire officials said.

On Monday, investigators found the device that started the blaze, 10 to 15 feet off Pine Street, said Medical Lake Fire Chief Cliff Denman. Officials won’t describe the device.

The fire began about 4:30 p.m. Sunday and forced the evacuation of Medical Lake’s Waterfront Park as well as Pine Lodge Pre-Release Center.

Investigators have no suspects and would not speculate as to why the fire was set.

An investigation continues.
