FERRY COUNTY

Republic

Celebrating its 100th school reunion Saturday, the Republic Alumni Association is reminding people that all festivities will be at the high school instead of the fairgrounds, which were badly damaged by storms. Registration and school tours begin at 9 a.m., with fun, food and old friends available all day Saturday, and a pancake breakfast Sunday morning.

GRANT COUNTY

Moses Lake

Residents are invited to fight cancer by attending a free concert Saturday. Dayfest, an annual fund-raiser for the North Columbia Community Action Council Cancer Relief Fund, features country and classic rock bands, blues and acappella music. Festivities run from 2 to 10 p.m. at McCosh Park.

Donations are gladly accepted.

LINCOLN COUNTY

Creston

With construction of a building under way to replace a mobile home, the Coulee Dam Credit Union’s Creston branch has moved to temporary quarters in the Town Hall auditorium. The new facility will offer customers a drive-up lane, ATM, lobby and public restrooms.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY

Town residents invite everyone to their annual Down River Days this weekend. Kicking off today and running through the weekend, the community celebration is sponsored by the North Pend Oreille Lions Club and features a scenic train ride.

STEVENS COUNTY

Kettle Falls

Hard work has paid off for Michelle McGreevy, winner of the Community Colleges of Spokane’s inaugural Unity in Our Community Scholarship Achievement Award. An interior design student at Spokane Falls, McGreevy has maintained a 3.5 grade-point average while working 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as a nursing assistant. “I try to get as much work as possible done at school so I can go home in the afternoon and sleep,” McGreevy said of her busy schedule. She is a graduate of Columbia River Christian Academy in Kettle Falls.

SPOKANE COUNTY

Fairfield

The Fairfield One-stop store on the corner of Main and Highway 27 is getting bigger. Owners Inga and Ron Poach have added a deli and drive-through that will open Saturday. Next week, the Poaches also will start lunch business delivery and dinner delivery in the town limits. They’ll also open at 5 a.m. for the early risers, and plan on staying open later during the harvest for farmers.

WHITMAN COUNTY

Pullman

Phillip Tabb of Boulder, Colo., is the new director of the Washington State University School of Architecture. Tabb replaces Rafi Samizay, who has returned to teaching, research and creative projects. Tabb has practiced architecture for 25 years in Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, Indiana and England. His specialties include sustainable urbanism, solar planning and community architecture.

BENEWAH COUNTY

Harrison

The St. Joe Medicine Show will present a repeat performance of Dogsbreath Deveraux Saturday at 7 p.m. at Kootenai High School during the Old Timers Picnic Celebration. Proceeds will go toward BetterCare. Tickets are $7 and will be sold at the door.

BONNER COUNTY

Sandpoint

Michael D. Boeck of Sandpoint has been reappointed to the Idaho Forest Commission for a three-year term. He manages the Priest River Division of Idaho Forest Industries and has 25 years of experience in the forest products industry.

Priest River

The Idaho Division of Environmental Quality is requiring the city to relocate water and sewer lines that are too close together along U.S. Highway 2. Relocation could cost about $35,000, said Jack Johnson of the city public works department.

BOUNDARY COUNTY

Mount Hall

The Mount Hall Community Church Food Bank, 16 miles north of Bonners Ferry, is open every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. The Food Bank helps at least one to two families per week, but expects more next month. Last August, about 160 people were helped by the Food Bank. KOOTENAI COUNTY

Coeur d’Alene

The U.S. Census Bureau will begin to collect population information in North Idaho beginning next week for the 2000 census. Bob Clingman of the Census Bureau said about 100 workers will begin by contacting people in remote areas. The census information helps the government distribute federal funds, redefine state and congressional legislative districts and plan for community services.

Post Falls

Wells Fargo & Co. has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who robbed the company’s Post Falls branch on Jan. 14. The robber is described as about 30 years old, 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with a silver wedding ring on his left hand. Anyone with information on the crime can call the Post Falls Police Department at 773-3517.

LATAH COUNTY

Moscow

The Moscow High School class of 1978 is having its 20-year reunion today and Saturday. Members from other classes are invited to join the informal gathering at Mingles in Moscow starting at 7 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call Heidi Holman at (208) 892-1126.

SHOSHONE COUNTY

Kellogg

Mountain Health Home Care recently shut down operations and laid off 15 workers. Owner Kristi Schoonmaker blamed the closure on financial problems caused by cuts in Medicare reimbursements.

Big Creek

Seven Sunshine Mine employees were trapped in a mine shaft elevator Wednesday and suffered minor injuries. Sunshine Mine general manager Harry Cougher said one of the guides that directs the elevator apparently came loose, causing it to jam into the sides of the shaft. Five of the seven employees who were injured were treated and released.

MONTANA

LINCOLN COUNTY

Libby

Aid Association Branch 2162 will sponsor an ice cream social from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church Park. In the event of rain, the social will be in the church basement. There is no charge, but an offering will be taken. Proceeds will be matched by the Helping Hands project to pay for a youth group’s day at Silverwood Theme Park.
