Council Faces Full Agenda

Spokane City Council members face a full plate tonight as they consider a range of issues including charter amendments, the six-year water and sewer programs, and removing parking spaces on sections of Browne and Division streets.

The council will also consider proposals by Spokane Community Partners, a citizens committee, to add several city charter amendments to the November ballot.

A citizen vote is required to amend the city charter.

One amendment would eliminate the requirement for weekly City Council meetings. Another would eliminate restrictions on the contents of the city’s Official Gazette.

A third would add restrictions to the city’s initiative process. It would, among other provisions, provide a time limit for gathering signatures on a petition.

In the past organizations have occasionally taken up to three years to collect signatures.
