Speed Fall In Softball Title Game
The Spokane Speed finally met their match Sunday in the championship round of the ASA regional U18 girls fastpitch softball tournament at Billings, Mont.
The Oregon Classics shut out the Speed 7-0 in the title game after previously knocking them into the losers bracket with a 5-0 decision.
In between, Spokane, already guaranteed a berth in the upcoming national tournament, Aug. 4-9 at Sacramento, Calif., downed the Washington Fury 4-3. Mandy Lawson singled in the tie-breaking run in the sixth inning. Winner Cheryl Andrizzi pitched all three games for the Speed.
Baseball
Eric Bell smashed four hits and drove in six runs Sunday night, helping the Blue Devils wrap up the Senior American Legion championship with a 15-3 victory over the Bandits at Jackson Field.
Bell, who had homered in the first game of the best-of-3 series on Saturday night, belted a seventh-inning grand slam Sunday. He had two singles and a double earlier in the game. Bell’s slugging backed the 10-strikeout pitching of Chris Eggleston.
Catcher Aaron Farr contributed two doubles and a single to the Blue Devils’ 15-hit attack.
Christ Miller, who doubled twice, and Justin Drake each had two hits for the Bandits.
