FROM FOR THE RECORD (Wednesday, July 29, 1998): Correction County fair deadline: The deadline for submitting entries for animal exhibits at the Pend Oreille County Fair is Friday. The date was incorret in a County Lines item Monday.

WASHINGTON

ADAMS COUNTY Othello

Nitrates in the groundwater will be the topic of a Columbia Basin Ground Water Management Area meeting Tuesday, July 27. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the East Columbia Basin Irrigation office, 55 N. 8th, Othello. For information, call 448-2802.

FERRY COUNTY

Republican Party members in Ferry County and throughout the 7th District are invited to a committee meeting. On the calendar for Aug. 15, folks will gather at the Byron and Marian McClanahan residence, 522 Hillcrest Circle Drive, Omak. GRANT COUNTY

Artists planning to get that blue ribbon at the Grant County Fair need to get paperwork in by Friday, Aug. 1. Rules and regulations are available at Candy’s, the library and MAC. For information, call 762-2857.

LINCOLN COUNTY Wilbur

It’s parent’s night out Tuesday, July 28 at the Wilbur Community Center. Local kids will entertain and clean up, while Chef Jim Harding will do the cooking. Parents are required only to relax.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY

The end is near! Those wishing to enter exhibits in the Pend Oreille County Fair, your deadline is looming. Entries for animal exhibits need to be at the fair office by Friday, Aug. 31. All other entries need to be postmarked by that same date.

SPOKANE COUNTY Cheney

The Cheney Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a series of free concerts at Sutton Park. The Summer Concerts in the Park Series takes place every Thursday through Aug. 20 at the park on Seventh and Washington. Shows begin at 6 p.m.

STEVENS COUNTY Colville

Those wishing to kick the habit are encouraged to attend a series of free Stop Smoking seminars. Kicking off Thursday, July 30, the meetings get under way at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Washington Medical Group.

WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

Koppel Farm Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m. at Koppel Farm in Pullman. Koppel Farm is a community garden off Professional Mall Boulevard and Derby Street in Pullman. Vendors pay $5 per day or $50 for the three-month season.

BENEWAH COUNTY Plummer

A hunter’s safety course will begin Aug. 3 at Lakeside High School. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 3, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 13. The course is open to people over age 11. BONNER COUNTY Sandpoint

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has scheduled an Aug. 19 hearing to take public comments on GTE’s proposed rate increase. GTE has proposed raising local phone rates for 130,000 customers in North Idaho. Monthly increases would be about $3.85 per month for residential customers, and $2.35 for business customers. The increase would help the company offset $4.4 million in lost revenues related to access line charges, company officials say. The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Edgewater Motel Conference Room, 56 Bridge St.

BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

U.S. Sen. Larry Craig’s staff assistant Kelly Kerby will be available to answer questions from the community Thursday at the county courthouse in Bonners Ferry. Kerby will be in the commission chambers from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

KOOTENAI COUNTY Coeur d’Alene

The Council of Rural Electric Communicators announced that Kootenai Electric Cooperative is the winner in the 1998 “Spotlight on Excellence.” The council developed the awards program as an annual event to showcase top-rated performance by electric cooperatives and related organizations.

LATAH COUNTY Moscow

A public hearing is set for Aug. 10 to discuss charter school applications filed with the Moscow School District. The board school must hold a hearing and then make a decision within 60 days of receiving an application for a charter school.

SHOSHONE COUNTY Smelterville

The City Council has scheduled a meeting on Aug. 10 at the City Hall to gather applications for a vacancy on the council. Any interested Smelterville resident can attend the meeting and apply for the open seat. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

The Lincoln County Campus of Flathead Valley Community College will host a pair of elderhostel programs on Scandinavian culture beginning Sept. 13.
