Spa’S ‘Doing-It’ Again At Corbin

Spokane Preservation Advocates had such a great time with their Corbin Park “Doing-It” project last month that they are “doing it” again.

Everyone is welcome to join the effort Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Corbin Park to finish clearing and mulching around trees.

The group will concentrate on the trees ringing the northwest end of the historic park.

“SPA wants to extend a hearty thank you to the Spokane Parks Department for their excellent instruction and contribution, and to the Corbin Park homeowners who joined in the effort last month,” said SPA member Linda Yeomans.

“With everybody helping, we were able to do almost half the trees last time,” said Yeomans

The next project is Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Preservation advocates will travel to the Dybdall Mill, between Cheney and Rosalia. The historic mill, built at the turn of the century, served area farmers.

Volunteers will begin an inventory of the mill property and record oral histories.

Here are other upcoming SPA projects:

Oct. 3 - 9 a.m. to noon, Spokane Marketplace, West First Avenue.

Nov. 7 - Opportunity Township Hall, Opportunity.

SPA is also involved in various preservation issues, including looking at the renovation of Lewis and Clark High School.
