Suspect Moons Neighbor, Daughter

A man who has been having what he described as a feud with a neighbor dropped his pants and mooned the neighbor and the man’s small daughter July 22.

The suspect was arrested and booked by Spokane Police into Spokane County jail on a charge of indecent exposure, according to police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Spokane police were called to West Mallon at 8:30 p.m. The complainant told police he previously objected to the driving of Robert A. Vermeulen, 19, who lives at 2426 W. Mallon, he said.

The two apparently exchanged words, and Vermeulen walked away. From across the street Vermeulen pulled down his pants and underwear, exposing his buttocks, Cottam said.

Vermeulen acknowledged his actions but said he didn’t know the 9-year-old girl was in the area.

Passenger, Gurrasi refuse to park

Police arrested two young men - one a juvenile - after they were accused of attempting to elude officers who spotted them driving a stolen car Saturday afternoon.

The 16-year-old driver sped down on Hamilton, then through residential neighborhoods on the North Side before turning into an alley just north of Indiana near Dakota, according to Cottam.

Both the driver and passenger jumped from the moving car, which continued across Dakota onto the sidewalk. Police said there were pedestrians in the area at the time. No one was injured, he said.

Police caught the driver and booked him into juvenile detention on charges of eluding police and vehicle theft. Passenger Aaron J. Gurrasi, 21, was booked into the Spokane County jail on a charge of car theft, Cottam said.

Cottam said Gurrasi gave his address as 3327 E. Liberty.

Girls tell police of beating

Three teenage girls told police they were beaten and robbed by three young women just before midnight Friday in the 3600 block of North Monroe.

The three told officers they were sitting and talking near the home of one of the girls about 11:50 p.m. when a car drove by, Cottam said.

They said the suspects stopped and immediately assaulted the three, demanding their money.

One of the suspects repeatedly slammed one victim’s head into a metal guard rail while demanding money. They finally took some cash, and the three fled in the car. Two of the victims had minor injuries but refused medical care, Cottam said.

They described the suspects, and officers found one of them, a 16-year-old. She denied any involvement in a robbery. She was identified by the victims and was booked into juvenile detention on a first-degree robbery charge, Cottam said.

Police have the name of a second suspect and will continue their investigation.
