Riverside Seniors A Class On The Move

Members of the Class of ‘98 of Riverside High School are used to going places. To school, to work, to music lessons, to sports practice, to the state girls’ basketball playoffs in Tacoma, to Florida, to New York, to Canada, to Spain, to Germany, to Mars. (Just kidding about that last one.)

And, of course, to home again. Living in a rural school district, travel comes with the territory. One look at the high school parking lot filled with vehicles and the long line of school buses at day’s end will tell you that this is a district on the go with a graduating class of travelers.

Road warriors, you might call them (just ask anyone who’s been at the intersection of Highway 2 and Deer Park-Milan Road between 7:30 and 8 in the morning). The majority of us travel to a common destination each day - Riverside High School - to further progress in what will hopefully be a life-long journey of education and self improvement.

As I talked with senior classmates about what they considered high points of their past four years at Riverside, I found that many favorite memories had to do with traveling. Finally getting a driver’s license, getting “wheels” (your own car), or going to…the prom, the homecoming game and dance, the state girls’ soccer tournament, Orlando on the band trip, etc…

Yes, I found in general that Riverside’s Class of ‘98 seems to like going places…together. Even if it’s only in circles (just ask about the 24-hour cross-country marathons at Bear Lake.)

The journey is always more pleasant when shared with a friend and many lasting friendships have been formed among the seniors of Riverside High - not only with each other, but also with teachers, coaches, administrators and staff.

Individual paths have crossed and recrossed over the months and years together and many happy memories have resulted. For sure, after commencement exercises on June 6, the graduating seniors of the Riverside High School Class of ‘98 will continue to go places - some near and some far. Here’s hoping that happy memories will, at some point, bring them home again.
