Killer Sentenced To Life In Prison

The convicted killer of Carolyn Killaby was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Dennis Keith Smith, 36, was found guilty last month of aggravated first-degree murder in the November 1995 slaying of the 34-year-old medical technician. Killaby’s body was never found.

Her daughter said she can never forgive Smith.

“I would like to think I’m a person of great forgiveness, but Dennis Keith Smith upset the whole meaning of my life, and for that reason I hope he rots in prison,” Gina Sheaffer said.

Prosecutors had said Smith was “looking for prey” the night Killaby disappeared. She was last seen at Omar’s Steak House and Lounge in Orchards, Wash.
