Toddler Critical After Nearly Drowning

From Staff

A 16-month-old girl from Olympia remained in critical condition late Friday after nearly drowning in Lake Coeur d’Alene, Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies said.

The unidentified girl was discovered by her mother around 8 p.m. in about three feet of water near the Coeur d’Alene KOA campground at Wolf Lodge Bay off state Highway 97, Capt. Ben Wolfinger said.

She had been under water about five minutes. The girl was flown by Med-Star to Kootenai Medical Center, where she was stabilized.

She was expected to be transported to a Spokane hospital late Friday or early this morning, Wolfinger said.
