Bowdish’S Heidi Bunkowske Sets 3 Track Records

Bowdish Junior High seventh-grader Heidi Bunkowske established three records during last week’s Vern Fox All-League track meet for Valley junior high and middle school athletes.

Hers were among five new records established at the meet.

The Class A athlete lopped a whopping 6.4 seconds off the old 400-meter mark with her preliminary time of 59.1 and ran even faster than that during the regular season.

She also set records of 12.7 in the 100-meter dash and 26.7 in the 200 and won the long jump at 15.3.

Bunkowske’s 40 points accounted for nearly two-thirds of Bowdish’s second-place meet total after the Rockets went 1-6 during the dual season.

Horizon’s Teagan McDonald was a three-event winner, setting a record of 5-1 in the high jump, also below her season’s best, and winning both the 800 and 1,600 meter runs.

The Hawks scored a meet high 102-1/3 points to win the league championship.

Mountain View’s Class B champions were paced by another record setter, Chris Bartlett, who ran 27.8 in the 200.

It was one of three individual titles for Bartlett, who also won the long jump and 100.

The Lancers also won both relays while compiling 106 points to beat Bowdish’s 81.

East Valley’s Jenny DeGroot was a double winner in the 800 and 1,600 meter runs.
