Employee Arrested In Dark Office

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man at the Valley DoubleTree Hotel on Sullivan Road early Saturday morning after employees reported someone was going through desk drawers in a dark hotel office.

Officers arrested Michael J. Schaffner, 20, of 1418 E. Wabash, for second-degree burglary.

Janitors noticed a man trying to pry the office door open with a credit card, according to police reports.

They went to tell other employees, who returned and found the suspect, a fellow employee, inside the dark office with a flashlight.

They knocked on the door and the man let them inside, deputies said. The suspect told them he was there to pick up his paycheck.

Employees detained the man until deputies arrived.
