Mike Jarvis, George Washington’s basketball coach the last eight seasons, took over the St. John’s program, agreeing to an undisclosed multiyear contract. It reportedly is a seven-year deal worth between $700,000-$800,000 a year.

Jarvis, 52, has never had a losing season. He coached five years at Boston University and eight at George Washington, where he was 152-90 and took the Colonials to four NCAA tournaments. His overall record is 253-141.

The eight steadfast members of the Western Athletic Conference are considering legal action against the eight who plan to leave next year.

Those schools remaining in the WAC fear the loss of potential bowl and television revenues. Legal action could be based on arguments of breach of contract.
