Kimmel Squad Hits Into Strong Start Ferris’ American Legion Team Wins 5 Of Its First 6 Games

Kimmel Athletic is off to a quick start in the American Legion AA South baseball league. The Ferris High team won five of the first six games of its 20-game summer season.

Included have been wins over two teams - Lewis and Clark and East Valley - currently chasing after the divisional leaders.

Kimmel has also split with Spokane Athletic Supply, which is a game behind in the loss column.

Thirteen players have hit safely for the team, nine of them with multihit games.

Eric Everson has hit safely in all six games for Kimmel, leading the team with 12. He’s had games with four and three hits.

Not far behind is Aaron Sedler, who has hit in five games for a total of 10.

LC’s is 2-2 with victories came over winless Freeman and Cheney.

Jeremy Harvey with five hits is leading LC batters. Richard Schram hit safely in the first three games and with Colin Shields and Nick Richard has three base hits.

The teams are in one of three American Legion leagues featuring 44 teams made up of players from area high schools.

AAA baseball includes six combined teams made up of the area’s older players. The Bandits are from Ferris, Freeman and University. The Royals are from LC, Cheney, Medical Lake and Gonzaga Prep.

Both teams currently are 1-1 in league.

AA teams are school affiliated. Their lineups are made up of varsity and junior varsity players who will return next year.

There are 21 teams total in two divisions. Teams play a 20-game league season, with top finishers advancing to end-of-season playoffs for a state berth.

The A league for youngsters ages 16 and under is made up the same way, with 17 school teams aligned in two divisions.
