Pepsi/Ccs 4-1 In First Week
Pepsi/CCS, the Shadle Park entry in American Legion AA baseball, is back where it belongs.
The North Side school last year played in the South Division of Legion, finishing second.
This year the team has returned to its geographic backyard. It is playing in the North Division.
Through the first week of the season the team has compiled a 5-1 record, second to unbeaten Panorama from Colville and just ahead of B&C Dix and the Rogers Boosters.
Pepsi earned a season split with an 8-6 eight-inning victory over Rogers on Tuesday night.
Rogers had beaten Pepsi by a run in an earlier game, breaking a tie in the seventh inning, Mike Kuck with three hits and Chad Krebs with a pair.
Fifteen different Pepsi players hit safely in the team’s first five games. Among them,Andy Miller and Brett Wideman had eight and seven for the team.
Besides the hitting of Krebs and Kuck for Rogers, Jeremy Winterroth hit safely in the team’s first four games, leading with a total of eight.
B&C Telephone’s 3-1 start included one-run wins over Gonzaga Prep and Mead.
The team also lost in extra innings to Rogers.
In four games, Jake Krummel with five hits and Josh Taylor with four have paced the team.
The teams are in one of three leagues featuring 44 teams for players through age 18.
AAA baseball includes six combined teams made up of the area’s older players. Blue Devils are from Shadle, North Central and Lakeside. North Stars include Mead, Mount Spokane and Rogers.
The Blue Devils are 1-1 in league and most recently participated in a tournament at Freeman.
The North Stars, winless in league, won twice during a tournament in Coeur d’Alene, beating a pair of Canadian schools.
Taylor West, who pitched the team past Trail 6-1, had five hits and catcher Brian Schutz four during the two wins.
Kyle Ellenz had three hits during a 6-1 win over Trail.
AA teams are school affiliated whose lineups are made up of varsity and junior varsity players who will return next year.
There are 21 teams total in two divisions. Teams play a 20-game league season with top finishers advancing to end-of-season playoffs for a state berth.
The A league for youngsters ages 16 and under is composed the same way with 17 school teams aligned in two divisions.
