Student Arrested For Carrying Club

A 17-year-old West Valley High School student was arrested Thursday for bringing a weapon - a wooden club - onto the school campus.

The arrest came just hours before the end of the school year.

The club was tucked into the male student’s back pocket and hidden under his shirt, according to a school security officer.

It may have been brought for a fight planned for later that day on the high school campus. The proposed fight had “gang overtones,” but little more is known, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies stopped a suspicious vehicle near the school, but found no additional weapons.

The student was released into the custody of school officials.
