Deputies Investigate Campground Shooting
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a complaint that two Dalton Gardens people were shot at while camping near Hayden Creek.
Angelique Darrar, 18, and Kelo Smoke, 22, told deputies a man holding a rifle shot at them while they were searching for an abandoned mine. The Chevrolet Blazer was hit at least twice by bullets, but no one was injured.
They drove to Darrar’s house after the incident and her father called deputies.
Darrar said she pulled the Blazer near the man’s campsite about 7 a.m. Saturday and he became angry. He cursed and told both to leave.
As they drove away, the man fired his rifle several times. Two of the bullets hit the truck’s tailgate. A third may have flattened a tire.
Both described the man as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 220 pounds with a shaved head and goatee. He had several tattoos on both arms and was wearing green camouflage pants.
