Ronald E. Bell was named the interim chief executive officer of the Community Colleges of Spokane on Monday.

As of Aug. 15, Bell will replace Terrance R. Brown, who retires today after 11 years in the position.

The search for a permanent CEO continues. Bell is not a candidate for that position, board members said.

The CCS district covers six counties and is comprised of Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and the Institute for Extended Learning.

Until Bell arrives, CCS Vice President Donald Kolb will oversee the district.

Bell was president of Shoreline Community College north of Seattle from 1981 to 1995. For the past year, he has been interim president at North Idaho College.
