Cardinals Get Split Decision Heading Into Region Tourney

North Idaho College’s basketball teams ended the regular season with a split decision Saturday in Hart Auditorium.

NIC’s women lost to Scenic West Athletic Conference champion Ricks 103-88.

The NIC men upset Ricks 87-83. No details were available.

In the women’s game, NIC made 13 of 30 3-pointers, including Tammy Goyne’s six and Barrie Jensen’s five. Goyne finished with 31 points and Jensen had 29.

But it wasn’t near enough. Ricks shot a blistering 63 percent from the field (37 of 59). The Vikings built a 14-point halftime lead and stretched the margin to 20 in the second half.

Cady Williams led the Vikings (27-2 overall, 16-2 SWAC) with 25.

NIC (21-6, 12-6) is seeded third and faces No. 6 Dixie (21-8, 10-8) at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the Region 18 Tournament on Ricks’ home court.

The seventh-seeded Cardinals men (17-12, 7-11) meet Dixie (26-4, 14-4) Thursday at 1 p.m. in Rexburg.
