Vandals Reach Tourney

From Staff And Wire Reports

With plenty of help from the Nevada Wolf Pack, the Idaho Vandals have made their way into the Big West Conference men’s basketball tournament.

When Nevada defeated New Mexico State 82-72 Sunday in Reno, Nev., the Vandals moved past the Aggies into fourth place in the conference’s Eastern Division. The top four teams in each division play in the conference tournament.

The Eastern Division will be represented (in order of regular-season finish) by Utah State, Nevada, Boise State and Idaho. The Western Division sends Pacific, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and Long Beach State.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo finished second in the Western Division but is not yet eligible for the conference tournament.

In Sunday’s game, Paul Culbertson scored 24 points for Nevada (15-11, 11-5) and Louis Richardson led New Mexico State (18-12, 8-8) with 19 points.
