Sprewell Causes Freeway Wreck
Former Golden State Warriors guard Latrell Sprewell lost control of his 1997 Mercedes on Interstate 680, near Pleasant Hill, striking another car and causing it to flip over on its roof, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
No one was seriously injured in the Sunday morning collision, said CHP officer Cliff Kroeger.
Sprewell was traveling south at a high rate of speed while changing lanes when he apparently lost control at about 10 a.m., Kroeger said.
The 27-year-old basketball star had changed lanes into an exit-only lane just before the accident. When he tried to return to the freeway, his car struck sand barrels near the Oak Park Blvd. exit, Kroeger said.
His Mercedes Benz SL600 then struck a wall and hit a Toyota Corolla, flipping it over on its roof.
Sprewell gained national attention in December for physically attacking Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo.
