Princeton’s 19th Win In Row Needs Ot

Steve Goodrich scored a career-high 33 points, including five in overtime, as No. 8 Princeton survived a scare from Ivy League rival Penn with a 78-72 win Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

The Tigers (26-1, 14-0 Ivy League), had to go to overtime for the first time this season to win their 19th straight since losing to North Carolina in December.

The Tigers had already secured the league title and automatic bid with a win over Cornell on Saturday.

Bill Carmody is 28-0 in the Ivy League since joining Princeton last season. Penn (17-12, 10-4) has lost five straight to the Tigers.

Butler 70, Wis.-Green Bay 51

At Green Bay, Wis., Matthew Graves scored 18 points and Mike Marshall grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the Bulldogs (22-10) over the Phoenix (17-12) for the Midwestern Collegiate Conference title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Butler captured its second consecutive MCC title and the automatic NCAA slot.

Valparaiso 67, Youngstown St. 48

At Moline, Ill., Bill Jenkins scored 16 points and the Crusaders (21-9) earned another trip to the NCAA Tournament by beating the Penguins (20-9) to win its fourth straight Mid-Continent Conference tourney title.

Valparaiso becomes just the eighth Division I school to win at least four consecutive conference tournaments. Kentucky holds the all-time NCAA record with seven straight.

South Alabama 62, SW Louisiana 59

At Lafayette, La., Toby Madison hit the winning basket with 40 seconds left as the Jaguars (21-6) shook off the Cajuns (18-13 for a victory in the Sun Belt Conference tournament title game.

The victory sends South Alabama to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
