Disgruntled cornerback Eric Allen was traded by the New Orleans Saints to the Oakland Raiders for a 1998 draft pick.

Allen, who had said he would retire if he wasn’t traded to a contender, immediately questioned whether the Raiders were such a team.

Allen said he’d met with Saints coach Mike Ditka and asked to be traded to San Francisco, Tampa Bay or Jacksonville. He said he may refuse to report to the Raiders.

Sam Gash signed with the Buffalo Bills, providing the lead blocker they were seeking to open holes for Thurman Thomas and Antowain Smith.

Gash’s blocking helped New England’s Curtis Martin become one of the NFL’s premier running backs.

The Miami Dolphins re-signed quarterback Craig Erickson to a $2.2 million, two-year contract.

Erickson, 28, has appeared in nine games, including three starts, in his two years with the Dolphins. The deal includes a $1.1 million signing bonus.
