The anticipated showdown between Silver Charm and Gentlemen will have to wait.

The two horses were expected to meet for the first time in today’s $1 million Santa Anita Handicap, but Silver Charm was scratched Friday with a bruised foot.

Silver Charm, last year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness champion, is a 4-year-old - two years younger than Gentlemen, who will carry 125 pounds.

Gentleman, who finished third behind stablemates Siphon and Sandpit in last year’s Santa Anita Handicap, has won 13 of 18 starts and earned $2,928,598.
