Rare Beanie Babies In Charity Auction

From Staff Reports

Twelve hard-to-find “Lady Di” Beanie Babies will be auctioned off Wednesday to raise money for charity.

Bidding will start at 1 p.m. at the Yoke’s food store in Airway Heights. Proceeds will go to the Ogden House, a Spokane shelter for battered women and children.

Beanie Babies are small beanbag animals popular with children. “Lady Di” Beanie Babies are hard to come by. They can’t be ordered; most can be bought only on the Internet, where sellers ask for $200 or more.

But a dozen arrived at Yoke’s last week along with the monthly shipment of about 2,000 other Beanie Babies.

“You just cross your fingers and hope they show up,” said store manager Shawn Letson. “We were very lucky.”

Instead of selling them for profit, employees decided to have a fund-raiser at the store.

“We just wanted to be generous,” Letson said. “We wanted to donate the money locally.”
