Nw Booksellers Open Spring Show

From Staff And Wire Reports

More than 500 authors, publishers and booksellers from five states will descend on the Lake City today to discuss the survival of the independent bookstore, the small press and the emerging author.

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association opens its spring tradeshow at the Coeur d’Alene Resort with programs on promoting books on the radio, product sidelines that work for bookstores, and where writers find inspiration.

Author and former Nixon White House attorney Leonard Garment will join small press owner Jim Hepworth of Lewiston, authors Robin Cody and Joanna Rose of Portland, and others to talk about how chain bookstores are hurting independent stores, small presses and authors.

Several authors will make appearances, including Stephen Hunter, Stephen Bodio, Don and Ann Morehead, Peter Fromm and Jon Krakauer.

The programs are open only to members. The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association membership covers Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana and Alaska.
