Stockton Exceeds 15,000 For Jazz

Associated Press

Karl Malone scored 30 points and John Stockton added 16 to surpass 15,000 points for his career as the Utah Jazz defeated the Vancouver Grizzlies 110-101 Friday night in Salt Lake City.

Greg Foster tied his career and season highs with 18 points and Adam Keefe had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who won for the 16th time in 17 games.

Malone scored 12 of his points in the last 6:37 after the Grizzlies had tied the game at 88-all.

Stockton hit the 15,000-point plateau with a driving layup from the right side past Lee Mayberry with 6:25 to play in the first quarter. He finished with 11 assists and a total of 15,013 points in his 14-year career.

The Charlotte Hornets won a team-record 10th straight game, getting 24 points from Glen Rice in a 100-82 rout of the Orlando Magic in Orlando.

The Los Angeles Clippers had the highest scoring game in franchise history and the largest point total of the NBA season as they routed the Toronto Raptors 152-120 in L.A.

Their previous club record was 146 points, set twice before. The previous highest point total this season was 140 by Phoenix in a quadruple overtime victory at Portland on Nov. 14.

Cliff Robinson scored eight of his 22 points during a decisive third-quarter run as the Phoenix Suns routed the Golden State Warriors 101-77 in Phoenix.

Allen Iverson scored a season-high 34 points and the Philadelphia 76ers surpassed last season’s victory total with a 107-86 win - their 23rd - and snapped the Atlanta Hawks’ four-game winning streak.

Kersey activated

The SuperSonics have brought Jerome Kersey off the injured list and placed David Wingate on it because of a strained right hamstring. Kersey missed the Sonics’ last 18 games because of a separated left shoulder.

Stoudamire not ready

The Portland Trail Blazers placed guard Damon Stoudamire on the injured list with a sprained right ankle.

Stoudamire limped off the court in the second quarter of the Blazers’ victory over the Phoenix Suns on Feb. 3 after he stepped on Jason Kidd’s foot on a drive to the basket.

He has so far missed three games and his status on the injured list means he must sit out at least five more.
