Wastewater Plant Given Top Ratings

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Environmental Protection Agency found the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant operating with no violations or problems after a recent review and inspection.

EPA officials described the facility as one of the best operated and cleanest plants they had seen, said Bill Madigan, city public works director.

The plant had no violations during 1997.

“Most plants will have some minor violations, but to have none is almost unheard of,” Madigan said.

Madigan credited the plant’s violation-free year to improved methods of operation and training of a highly motivated and competent staff.

“This is particularly impressive considering the plant’s previous year, prior to the construction upgrade at the plant, when the EPA issued a substantial number of violations,” he said.
