Garfield Wears State 4a Crown
The Garfield Bulldogs used their pressure defense and got 18 points from tournament MVP Jerry Petty to win their 11th state title Saturday with a 78-65 victory over Wilson of Tacoma in the State 4A boys basketball tournament in the Kingdome.
The Bulldogs (24-5) won their second title of the decade. They also defeated Redmond in 1991.

Matt Vitalich made a layup with 22 seconds left to give the Mariners (22-6) a win over the Rams (25-4) for third place. Rogers took sixth.
The Mariners came back to win after blowing a 20-point lead in the second half.
Jacob Stevenson led Sehome with 13 points. Eric Clancy’s 16 points paced Rogers, and 6-foot9 senior post Michael Palm added 14, giving him 66 for the tournament.

James Davis scored 11 of his 21 points in the opening quarter as the Plainsmen (20-6) jumped to a 17-4 lead and went on to beat the Bombers for fourth place. Richland took eighth.
Willie Walden and Chris Neal scored 10 points each and Walden and Shawn Gilliam each had 12 rebounds for Evergreen.
