Cigarette Blamed For House Fire

A north Spokane house was damaged Monday evening from a blaze that started with a cigarette, firefighters said. No one was injured.

Spokane Fire Lt. Ron McNamee said crews were called to 2404 E. Wellesley at 7:20 p.m., by a woman who was home alone.

The fire, which started in an upholstered chair, had spread to a living room wall and the ceiling when firefighters arrived.

“The fire itself never got beyond the living room,” McNamee said.

The house was insured, he said.
