Evansville Drops Football
The University of Evansville is out of the football business after 75 years.
The Division I-AA school, deciding it can no longer provide the support needed to compete with other schools, discontinued a program that began in 1923.
Evansville officials said all contracts with the coaching staff will be honored, and it will assist any of the approximately 65 team members who wish to transfer.
“I’m disappointed with the decision to drop football, but I’m obviously biased,” said athletic director James Byers, who coached football from 1966-76.
