Absentee Ballots Fail To Save Republic Levy

From Staff Reports

The counting of 15 more absentee ballots Tuesday sealed the defeat of a Republic School District operating levy.

The Ferry County Auditor’s Office hadn’t received any new ballots for two days, and didn’t expect any more.

The levy had 59.1 percent support on election night, March 10, leaving the possibility that absentee ballots would provide the 60 percent majority needed for passage. But support slipped Tuesday to 59.05 percent, 698-484.

School board members may decide tonight whether to resubmit the two-year, $249,000-a-year levy. The next available election date is May 19. , DataTimes
