City Welcomes North Hill As Neighborhood Council

The North Hill area returned to the city’s recognized neighborhood family on Monday.

During a town hall meeting at Ferris High School, Spokane City Council members welcomed the North Hill area as the city’s 13th neighborhood council.

North Hill resident Sandy Gill told the council the area was the first to graduate from the city’s community development program two years ago. At that time, the neighborhood’s median income exceeded that required by the lowincome program.

After a two-year lull, the neighborhood is back active again, Gill said. It plans to launch the city’s first mobile COPS shop this summer. Neighbors also are gearing up for a community-wide cleanup.

The neighborhood council program “promotes dialogue and communication,” rather than dissension, Gill said. “Being involved in decisions, that’s important to us.”
