Letourneau Says She’s ‘Excited’ About Pregnancy

Associated Press

Mary Kay Letourneau, imprisoned for raping a former student, has told “American Journal” she is excited about being pregnant again.

Asked if the pregnancy was intended, she replied, “Apparently by God. … I can wake up every morning now and bear what I have to bear being here.”

Letourneau is in the Washington state Women’s Corrections Center at Purdy, serving a seven-year sentence for child rape.

The former Burien teacher admitted having sex with one of her former sixth-grade students and gave birth to the boy’s child. She was released from jail in early January but was arrested a month later after the two were caught together.

Letourneau has told friends the boy, now 14, is the father this time as well. A girl was born to the two nearly a year ago and is being raised by the boy’s mother. Letourneau has four other children by her husband, who now lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and is seeking a divorce.

“I am excited about the life I have inside of me, and I’m excited as I always am with my pregnancies,” she told “American Journal.”

Letourneau said she can choose what to eat at each meal at the prison, and said an extra meal is provided for pregnant women.
