What airline had the worst record for “bumping” passengers from flights in 1997?
Alaska Airlines, according to the federal government’s compilation of such statistics, which show Alaska bumped 2.55 passengers involuntarily per 10,000 passengers.
The figures are based on the number of passengers who hold confirmed reservations and are denied boarding because a flight is oversold.
The best record belonged to Continental, which bumped only 0.11 passengers per 10,000.
It was followed by United (0.50); Northwest (0.61); American (0.72); US Airways (0.96); TWA (1.34); Delta (1.69); America West (2.10); and Southwest (2.36).
