Ewu’s Broussard Dominates At Festival

Eastern Washington’s Seville Broussard won three events and Washington State’s Ian Waltz picked up two individual field event titles to highlight Saturday’s collegiate track and field competition at the Tri-Cities Sports Festival in Richland.

Broussard won the 100- and 400-meter hurdles with times of 14.21 and 60.15 seconds, respectively, and bested the high-jump field with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. WSU’s Francesca Green also had a big day, winning the long jump (20-2) and 100 meters (11.78).

Waltz won the discus with a heave of 188-5 and the shot put with a toss of 60-3. In another outstanding effort in the men’s competition, Waltz’ WSU teammate Matt Stadelman threw the javelin 224-7 to edge Idaho rival Oscar Duncan, who threw 224-2.

In the high school competition, Mead’s boys got a 1-2 finish from Todd Favant and Andrew Walton in the steeplechase, and victories from Zack Cassel in the pole vault (14-6) and Joe Zelinski in the 100 meters (11.1).

The Panthers girls picked up victories from Annie McCabe in the 3,000 meters (10:40.6) and from Janelle Edington in the javelin (120-2).
