A Birthday Surprise

Sen. Daniel Moynihan, above, who turned 71 on March 16, doubled over in laughter when he opened his birthday letter from Vice President Al Gore congratulating him on the birth of twins. “Tipper joins me in sending our warmest congratulations and best wishes to you. We know that everyone close to you shares the excitement of the new additions to your family,” the letter read in part. It seems a Gore staffer pushed the wrong button in the form letter machine. Moynihan sent back a note saying that in 71 years he never had a birthday present that gave him so much joy or laughter.
