Schleper Rallies

Compiled From Wire Services

Fearless Sarah Schleper vaulted from eighth place with a blistering second run to capture the women’s giant slalom in the U.S. Alpine Ski Championships.

Schleper, 19, of Vail, Colo., was tied for eighth after the first run, 1.25 seconds off the lead shared by veteran Julie Parisien and Italy’s Marika Fave.

Schleper charged into first place with a no-holds-barred, gate-bashing second run that was 1.08 seconds quicker than the next fastest skier, Caroline Lalive.
