Eberlin Brothers Help Lumberjacks Log Victory
The Eberlin brothers struck quite a chord for St. Maries on Saturday.
Pat Eberlin totaled two doubles, a home run and five runs batted in, and D.J. Eberlin threw a one-hitter as the Lumberjacks (4-3) defeated host Grangeville 11-1 in the first game of a non-league baseball sweep.
D.J. Eberlin, making his second appearance on the mound, struck out eight.
St. Maries rallied for a 5-4 win in the second game, as Trent Duffey (2-0) struck out nine and walked one and Matt Hanson had a two-run double in the fourth to cut into the Bulldogs’ three-run lead.
Matt Scott and Jens Weiden had two hits apiece as visiting Sandpoint defeated Clarkston 9-6 for a split of their non-league doubleheader.
Clarkston won the opener 12-3 behind Quinn Eberhardt’s five-hitter.
Boys soccer
Cheney (3-2-1) broke from a 1-all tie midway through the second half to defeat host Coeur d’Alene 3-1 in a non-leaguer.
Jeff Waggoner of the Vikings (4-3) scored early in the second half after two other CdA shots missed the mark.
Adam White’s surprise goal midway through the second half helped cement Lewiston’s 3-0 win over visiting Bonners Ferry in the North Idaho League.
White and a Badgers defender reached a loose ball simultaneously. The force of their slides popped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head.
Devin Price scored from 35 yards at 65 minutes to lift Sandpoint to a 1-0 non-league win over visiting West Valley (3-2).
On the play, WV goalkeeper Nick Brumback came out to stop a Bulldogs breakaway. The ball went back to Price, who had an open kick from long distance.
Trevor Tharp and George Souza made up for a slow start with one goal and one assist apiece in the second half to lead Pullman (2-0) to a 3-1 GNL win over visiting Chewelah (0-2-1).
Chewelah’s Scott Ace scored from 35 yards midway through the first half.
Justin Emch totaled three goals and one assist, all in the second half, as Riverside (2-0) rallied for a 6-2 win at Deer Park (1-3).
Mark Zienert and Emch took turns feeding one another for late second-half goals that expanded the Rams’ lead to 5-2. Chris Dowers scored both Stags goals, including one in the first minute.
Softball
Freshman Marine Peoples, making her first start, pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine as Richland topped visiting Sandpoint 7-1 in a non-leaguer.
Freeman could grow to like the Great Northern League.
The Scotties, one of three Northeast A League teams playing fast-pitch softball in the 2A GNL, took the early league lead Saturday with a doubleheader sweep.
Helda Dahmen hit a grand slam in the first inning and Leslie White pitched a one-hitter as Freeman defeated host Newport 15-0 to complete the sweep.
