Old-Fashioned Carnival At Blake Elementary

Blake Elementary School will hold an old-fashioned spring carnival from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the school, 13313 E. Broadway.

The carnival, hosted by the Parent Teacher Student Association, is designed for children in sixth grade and younger.

It will include 18 game and food booths, a jumping castle and other activities. Tickets for the booths will cost a quarter each. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

Raffles will be held for gift certificates to Chapter Eleven and Players and Spectators, a new set of Firestone tires and a first aid kit. Raffle tickets cost $1. Prizes also will be available for the kids.

Parking is available in the church parking lot at the corner of Broadway and McDonald.

Pet fair planned next Saturday

The Spokane County Animal Shelter will hold a Be Kind to Animals Pet Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. May 9 at the animal shelter, 2521 N. Flora Road.

The event, in recognition of Be Kind to Animals Week, May 3-9, will include demonstrations and discussions on invisible fences at 1 p.m., pet vaccinations at 2 and pet grooming at 3:15.

Refreshments will be available. Pets available for adoption will be shown and participants can volunteer to walk a dog or pet a cat.

The shelter is also holding a fund-raising campaign, with donation jars located throughout the county. “Coins for Critters” donation jars are located at the county commissioners’ office, the Spokane Federal Credit Union, Thunder Mountain Dog Supply, Hewlett Packard, Aslin Finch-North, Evergreen Pet and the shelter. Proceeds benefit programs at the Spokane County Animal Shelter.
