Shooting Suspect Sought In Hammer Attack

From Staff

A man wanted in an April 3 shootout at Spokane’s Corbin Park is now suspected of attacking a man with a hammer.

A 29-year-old man told police Adama Walton assaulted him about 1 a.m. Friday near Mission and Division. The man said he was walking near the intersection when Walton and another man drove up in a car. Walton was carrying a hammer that had an ice pick-like point on one end, the victim told police.

The man said Walton hit him in the right leg with the sharpened end of the tool, causing a wound that required six stitches.

Police said the victim and Walton, both of whom have gang ties, apparently have been engaged in an ongoing dispute and had fought each other Thursday.

Authorities believe Walton was one of several men who exchanged gunfire in Corbin Park last month after a gang dispute. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in that incident.

A 76-year-old man eating lunch in a house near the park was hit in face by a stray bullet.
