Future Nursing Grads To Earn Joint Degrees
Intercollegiate Center for Nursing graduates will be awarded a joint degree with Washington State University and their home school, officials said Monday.
Under an agreement to be signed Wednesday in a ceremony at the north Spokane nursing center, students who transfer from Eastern Washington University, Whitworth College and Gonzaga University may earn a joint degree with WSU.
In the past, graduates earned a degree only from their home institution, even though WSU managed the nursing center and employed the faculty.
The change will begin with the class of 2002 and graduates will be counted as alumni of both schools.
The center, 2917 W. Fort George Wright Drive, trains about 500 students earning either a bachelor of science in nursing or master’s of nursing.
Since 1968, the center has operated as a consortium of WSU, Eastern and Whitworth. Gonzaga joined earlier this year. It expects to send 25 junior and senior nursing students annually.
